Dr. Enno’s Story

My recent experience with UHC Medicare Advantage prior authorization showed serious communication issues and delay issues on a knee procedure that was so obviously needed that it should have not required prior authorization, particularly with the MRI showing a clear indication for surgery. I was notified less than 24 hrs prior to the scheduled surgery that the surgery was approved. When I arrived for the surgery, the office still did not have the prior authorization confirmation # on file. Nobody at UHC was even able to find the prior authorization request when I called several days before the scheduled surgery. All such delays simply cause more impairment and possibly even worsening of the patients’s condition. If the doctor or patient gives up as a result of the delays, the condition could deteriorate with potential life-threatening consequences.
