Dr. Allan’s Story

My pediatric patient had tried multiple different medications to manage his ADHD symptoms. We were finally able to find a successful treatment that allowed him to be functional and safe from the moment he woke up. However, a few months into treatment, his insurance suddenly decided that a prior authorization was necessary to continue the medication that he had been on for months already. He was out of his medication, and my office was scrambling to submit the prior authorization, provide the required documentation, and do all this through multiple phone calls and automated phone trees. While we were able to get the medication approved, it required my patient to be off of his medication for over a week. It also required significant time investment from the patient’s father, my nurse, and myself to get this approval.
